Strip Easily Wins Puss N Boots Cup

Silver
Strip wins the Puss N Boots Cup.
FORT ERIE,
September 3…Silver Strip had everything
his own way and turned back all rivals scoring a 1 ¾ length
victory in this afternoons Puss n Boots Cup at Fort Erie.
With a confident David Piques in the saddle, the six-year-old
son of Comic Strip set off the early pace and made a solid
run into the final turn, passing the leaders before drawing
clear for the win.
“We new we had the best horse going in,” said
Piques. “All I had to do was stay out of trouble.”
The win was the
fourth in a row for the Brian Ross trained runner. He won
back to back races on the Fort Erie turf in July and scored
an impressive win in an allowance race on the grass at
Woodbine prior to today’s win.
Silver Strip, who is owned by Reno DiSalvo, covered 1 1/16
miles on the turf in 1:45 3/5.
Earlier in the
day, Fort Erie’s leading rider Robbie
King Jr. guided Ladyinblue to a 2 length victory in the Labatt
Cup.
“She was aggressive but I was able to sit in behind
the leader,” said King. “She dragged me to the
front on the final turn and we opened up. She was coming
off two good races and today’s distance is right up
her alley.”
Ladyinblue, owned by Dixieland Stable and trained by John
Simms, ran the 1 1/16 miles on the turf in 1:45 4/5.
The win was the first in five tries at Fort Erie this year.
Ladyinblue was three for three over the winter at Tampa bay
Downs.
