Jockey
Michael Mehak gets a wet congratulations on his first win
from fellow jockeys.
FORT ERIE, October 12...Apprentice jockey Michael
Mehak didn’t waste any time finding the winner’s
circle at a thoroughbred racetrack.
The 24 year-old
quarter-horse jockey scored his first thoroughbred victory
aboard Sneaky Dee in the Sunday’s eighth race at
Fort Erie.
“I’ve
been riding quarter-horses for nearly four years,” said
Mehak. “I had a great opportunity today, they (trainers)
gave me a chance and I won one.”
The Steve Owens
trained filly sat just of the early pace of Horizon Moon
and rallied on the outside through the stretch to win by
a neck.
Sneaky Dee paid
$5.40, $3.20 and $2.20. Horizon Moon held on t0 finish
second, $3.30 and $2.40. Miss Yankee was third, $$2.10.
