Rides Five Winners at the Fort
FORT
ERIE,
October 5...Jockey David Garcia continued his
reign as one of the top riders at Fort Erie with a five-win
performance on Sunday afternoon.
The 34-year-old
native of Mexico started the day off with a daily double,
winning the first aboard Diamond Park ($6.90) and the second
with longshot Keirnan’s Legacy ($21.60). Garcia took
the fourth race of the day with Sweet Regent ($13.90),
the sixth on Judith’s Aidan ($8.40) and came back
to win the seventh on Shotinthewind ($11.10).
“It was
a super day,” said Garcia, who began riding at Fort
Erie on a regular basis in late June. “It couldn’t
be better, winning is always good, like getting a gift.”
Garcia sits in
third place in the rider standings with 57 winners following
today’s solid effort. Chad Beckon leads all jockeys
with 73 wins, 9 ahead of Rui Pimentel (64). Both went winless
on today’s nine-race card.
As for the trainers,
Mike Newell saddled two winners today pushing his total
for the year to 29. He is now four up on Nick Gonzalez
(25). Lyle Morden is third among the trainers with 23 winners,
one up on John Simms, three up on Don MacRae.
