Track Records Fall at the Fort
FORT ERIE,
May 24...Two track records were set at
Fort Erie Race Track over the holiday weekend.
Teacher Boyne
scored an impressive win in Sunday’s
fourth race and erased a track record that has stood since
1968.
With Melanie Pinto in the saddle, the six-year-old son of
Hennessy blistered 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.42 eclipsing the
record set by Muzledick (1:15.80) forty-two years ago.
It was the Teacher
Boyne’s third straight win at Fort
Erie this year and jockey Melanie Pinto is now 6 for 6 when
riding the veteran runner.
“He’s a treat to ride,” said Pinto. “I
knew if I could get the lead and get him to relax we would
get the job done and it worked out perfectly.”
Teacher Boyne is owned by Herbert Chambers and trained by
Lyle Morden.
In Monday’s first race Mike Mehak guided Ghostly Concerto
to a 2 ½ length victory, covering the 4 ½ furlong
distance in 51.35 knocking 11/100th of a second off the mark
set by Cacouna on opening day of the season.
Ghostly Concerto, who is owned by Leah Ann Ouellette and
trained by Chris Jolin was making his first start of the
season. It was the five-year-olds fifth win in 29 lifetime
starts.
Parking
