Race - Tight Early Battle
FORT ERIE, May 21...If the first 8 days
are any indication, the battle for leading rider at Fort
Erie Race Track this season may be a neck and neck drive
to closing day.
Chris Griffith and Chad Beckon share the lead with eight
wins each while Cory Clark made a late weekend rally to close
to within one.
Clark rode three
winners on Tuesday’s card, a total
of five for the weekend and closed the gap on the leaders.
Beckon rode two winners over the weekend. Griffith was shut
out.
Veteran female rider Regina Sealock kicked it into high
gear the past few days. Sealock, who rode her first winner
23 years ago in Calgary, rode two winners on Sunday and followed
up with a pair on Monday, giving her six on the season. Good
for a fourth place tie with Rui Pimentel, each with six wins.
Don MacRae, on fire in the early stages, both at Fort Erie
and Woodbine, leads the local trainer standings with six
wins.
Jimmy Woods, long-time conditioner on the Ontario circuit,
is enjoying early season success saddling four winners and
is second behind MacRea.
Three trainers sit in a three-way tie for third, veteran
conditioners John Simms and newcomer Alan Desruisseaux have
each saddled three winners.
Live racing at
Fort Erie every Sunday through Tuesday.
Post time for the first race each day is 1:05pm.
