FORT ERIE, May 2...Apprentice jockey Mike Mehak wasted no time in finding the winners circle on opening day at historic Fort Erie Race Track.

The former quarter horse jockey, who won his first thoroughbred race here last fall, guided Fearless Buzz to a come from behind win in the opener for trainer Ron Davies.

It was the third career win for the ten pound apprentice who came back to win two more on the day. Mehak won the day’s fourth race aboard Baileysinheritance for trainer Winston Wilkinson and the sixth aboard Bitter Ending and trainer Bill Lane.

“It feels real good.” Mehak said. “I’m going to be riding here on a regular basis, I have a chance to ride some nice horse and get some experience.”

Racing continues tomorrow, first race at 1:10pm.

Beginning Sunday, May 10 the track will offer live racing three days a week, Sunday through Tuesday.
