Fort Erie Opens Stable Area

FORT ERIE, March 20...Spring has arrived. The season that marks the return of the thoroughbreds to Fort Erie Race Track officially arrived at 7:44 this morning and 16 minutes later the historic oval opened the gates to the stable area.

“Today and tomorrow will be set up days,” said racing secretary Tom Gostlin. “Horsemen will be allowed to start shipping in horses on Sunday and we will open the main track for training Monday morning.”

Training hours will be 10:00am to 1:00pm for the first two weeks. Beginning April 5 training hours will be 7am. To 11am.

The track has received over 700 stall applications and can accommodate just over 1,000 horses.

“I’m actually quite pleased with the quick response from the horsemen,” said Gostlin. “It shows us that there are horses out there and horsemen that really want to race here at the Fort.”

The 112th season of live racing opens Saturday, May 2.
