Live
Racing to Continue at Fort Erie
FORT ERIE,
March 12...Nordic Gaming Corp. announced they
have reached an agreement that will allow the continuation
of live racing at the historic Fort Erie Race Track for
2009.
“Nordic
is very pleased that all the stakeholders have been able
to come up with a solution that will enable live racing
this season,” said owner representative Stephen
Ayers. “As in the past we will continue to support
the track and the wonderful people who make the operation
work.”
Nordic’s
owners (El Ad Canada) have negotiated a Letter of Intent
with the Fort Erie EDTC to enter into negotiations regarding
the purchase and sale of the property and assets comprising
Fort Erie Race Track.
“We are
looking forward to successful negotiations with the EDTC
that will allow the purchase of the track,” said
Ayers.
Nordic Gaming,
who will continue to operate the track, plans to mirror
recent year’s operations with respect to the opening
of the stable area and race dates.
The stable area
is schedule to open for set-up March 20 and 21 while horses
will be allowed to ship in March 22. Training will begin
March 23.
Subject to regulatory
approval, opening day is scheduled for May 2.
“It has
been a pleasure for us to work with the stakeholders who
have an investment in the tracks operation,” said
Director of Operations Herb McGirr. “We are especially
pleased that we will have live racing in 2009.
