Poetically
is a go for Labatt Bison City Stakes
.The ladies have been grabbing the headlines this year on
the Canadian racing scene. This past Sunday, Dancethruthedawn,
the three-year-old daughter of Dance Smartly beat the boys
in the Queens Plate and this Sunday, July 1 at Fort
Erie Race Track, the countrys other top three-yearold
fillies look to make a name for themselves in the $250,000
Labatt Bison City Stakes.
Poetically,
the Sovereign Award winner last season as the top two-year-
old filly in Canada, is hoping to get things rolling again.
A blood disorder and infection earlier this year, cost the
daughter of Silver Deputy valuable training time and a shot
at competing in the Labatt Woodbine Oaks, the first leg of
the Triple Tiara Series, which was won by Dancethruthedawn.
Trainer Roger Attfield is encouraged by Poeticallys
recovery and feels shes ready to return to her outstanding
form in Sundays one mile and one-sixteenth event. Shes
such a nice filly, we had to do the right thing by her, regarding
the illness, said Rachel Halden, Attfields assistant.
If Roger thinks shes
ready, then shell be ready. He knows her better than
anyone.
Also
expected to race are Oaks runners Dancen In The Sun, trained
by David Bell, Quick Blue trained by Linda Rice, and Mark
Frostad trained Penny Perfect. Classical Romance, trained
by John Cardella, is also scheduled to compete on Sunday.
Fort
Erie Race Track, welcomes Labatt as the featured sponsor of
the Bison City Stakes. After sponsoring the Woodbine Oaks,
Labatt joined forces with Fort Erie Race Track, making a multi-year
commitment to the border oval and the Bison City Stakes.
Two
$50,000 in-house stakes will also be run this Sunday. The
annually, entertaining and competitive Centre Stage Anne Stakes
and the Parnitha Stakes will be contested at six furlongs.
In addition, there will be live musical entertainment and
hot dogs, soft drinks, and programs will be offered for only
$1.
