Spread the News Impressive in Valliere Memorial at the Fort
FORT ERIE,
July 26...Spread the News exploded to the lead around the far turn and held off all late runners to score a ¾ length win in the Don Valliere Memorial Cup Sunday at Fort Erie.
With Melanie Pinto in the irons, the son of Cat’s at Home blew by the front runners and opened up a three length lead in the final two furlongs of the six furlong sprint.

“I had so much horse going into the turn I couldn’t believe it,” said Pinto. “We blew by the leaders but I knew we still had to worry about the late closers. He ran a big race today and we held them off.”
Owned by Tom Grimes and trained by John Simms, Spread the News is now three for three on the main track this year at the Fort. His only two losses came against tougher company on the turf.
Spread the News covered the six furlongs in 1:10 3/5 and paid $10.10 to win. Break Even closed to finish second ahead of Great Addiction who also rallied from off the pace to finish third.
The exactor paid $80.40, the triactor returned $285.00.
The Cup series resumes next Sunday when fillies and mares meet in the one mile and one sixteenth Mike Anderson Memorial.
