Fort Erie,
July25...Golden
Moka, making his first start in North America and his first
since last November after racing in Panama as a 2-year-old,
registered a stunning $22.70 upset in Sunday’s $500,000
Prince of Wales Stakes here at Fort Erie.

Golden Moka, under
locally-based rider Anthony Stephen, scored by 2.75 lengths
with Mobil Unit ending second.

Big Mike, the
4-5 favorite after winning the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine,
was another length back as the third-place finisher in
the field of seven Canadian-bred 3-year-olds.

Golden Mocha,
owned by Good Friends Stable and trained by Brian Lynch,
earned $300,000 for the victory while remaining undefeated
in four starts.
The final time
for the 1 3/16 miles was 1:56.45.


***Woodbine shippers
also won the two $50,000 supporting stakes on the program
as Drunken Love captured Daryl Wells Memorial and Authenicat
won the Ernie Samuel Memorial.

Both races were
run over five furlongs of dirt after originally being scheduled
for the turf course.
