Marni Williams Hangs up Tack for Remainder of 2010 Season
Fort Erie,
July 08...Jockey Marni Williams has made a decision to put a hold on her apprenticeship after winning her 4th race on Tuesday, July 6th. Williams guided Gentle to a 2 length victory in the 4th race for trainer Winston Wilkinson. Gentle returned $14.10 to win, $5.40 to place and $3.30 to show.

Jockey Marni Williams hangs up her racing tack until 2011.
The 29 year-old Toronto native puts her 10 lbs Bug to rest after a productive week at the office. On Monday, July 5th, she brought home a huge long shot on the Fort Erie turf when Shoot for a Cure got to the wire just in time. Fans that backed Marnie were presented with a $54.80 winner.
After winning that afternoon Marnie had a tough decision to make but after much thought she has decided to hang up her racing tack until 2011 when she will return to the races as a 5 lbs apprentice jockey.
“I m very light and I can stand to put on a few pounds of muscle,” said the 98 lbs rider. “I get to go out with a bang,” she continued. “I learned a lot this season but most of all, I learned to be patient in a race.”
Williams rode her 1st winner at Fort Erie Race Track on May 30th when Huggy Rocks scored a rail skimming victory.
Live racing continues at Fort Erie on Sunday, Monday’s and Tuesday’s, first race post time is 1:30pm.
