Gonzalez
Wins 8 in a Row, Needs One to Tie Record
FORT ERIE,
August 24...Trainer Nick Gonzalez will be looking
to tie a record for the most consecutive wins by a trainer
at Fort Erie when he saddles Early Spring in Tuesday’s
first race.
Gonzalez has saddled
eight straight winners at the Border Track and is closing
in on the record of 9 consecutive winners set by trainer
Alex Bankuti in 1984.
The streak began
on Monday when the veteran trainer won the final two races
on the card, Make it Fo in the 8th and Amhara in the 9th.
Gonzalez came back on Tuesday winning races 4 through 7
with Cappal Mor, Style Scene and Kilmoganny. Yesterday
he recorded a double with Maria’s Girl in the 1st
and Cacouna in the 4th. Today, he sent out A Mean Forester
to win the 1st.
“This is
for the crew,” said Gonzalez. “I have a great
team and they are the ones who put in the time and effort
to make something like this possible. It would be very
rewarding.”
In tomorrow’s
first race Early Spring will be making her first lifetime
start in a $10,000 maiden claiming race for two-year-old
fillies at a distance of 4 ½ furlongs.
“I’ve
only had her for a couple of weeks,” he said. “She
came from Mark Casse at Woodbine so I expect her to be
ready to run.”
Post time for
the first race is 1:45pm.
