Eight
to Go in Rainbow Connection
FORT ERIE,
August 15...A
competitive field of eight fillies and mares, including
defending champ Flashy Pink, will contest Sunday’s
$125,000 Rainbow Connection Stakes at five furlongs on
the Fort Erie turf course.
A two-time winner
on the grass, Flashy Pink will get the services of Eddie
Robinson and will looking for her first win of the season.
Only If Split
is the morning line favourite at 5-2. The Lorne Richards
trained filly comes to the Fort off two runner-up efforts
at Woodbine. She will be trying the turf for only the third
time and gets leading rider Chad Beckon.
Veteran runner
Shot Gun Ella is the second choice at 3-1. She has tried
this race twice, a third place finish behind Flashy Pink
last year and a second place effort the year before. Emile
Ramsammy gets the call.
Birsay, making
her first start for new connections, is the third choice
at 7-2. Claimed for $40,000 out of her last race by Derby
Dreamers Racing Stable, she is a proven grass runner with
two wins in eight tries. David Garcia will ride for trainer
Henry Whalen.
The rest of the
field, with jockeys, is Paradise Cat (Chantal Sutherland),
Miss Juicey (David Clark), Ninas Cat (Chris Griffith) and
Miss Terra (Daniel David).
The Rainbow Connection
Stakes will be the eighth race on Sunday’s nine race
card. Post time will be 4:18pm. First race of the day goes
at 1:05pm.
Sunday is also
HBPA day at the races featuring $1 Hot Dogs and $1 Soft
Drinks and free umbrellas to the first 1,000 racing fans
with a purchase of a program.
