Bright N Golden Splashes to Victory in Valliere Memorial

Don Valliere Memorial Cup Bright N Golden wins 2008 Don Valliere Memorial Cup

FORT ERIE, August 10...Bright N Golden splashed his way to a narrow victory in the Don Valliere Memorial Cup Sunday afternoon at Fort Erie.

The son of Dance Brightly had no trouble handling the sloppy going, after all, he romped to a 4 ½ length victory in his latest start, July 22, over a similar surface.

With Eldridge Lindsay in the irons, Bright N Golden was able to settle in close to the pace in the early stages. He kicked off around the far turn and was able to hold off some late challengers to win by just ¾ of a length. The final time for the six furlongs was a quick 1:10 3/5.

Owned by Ed Waithe and trained by Daniel Harvey, Bright N Golden is now 5 for 6 over the Fort Erie track this season.

Bright N Golden paid $8.70, $4.20 and $3.70. Break Even, who was far back at the start, rallied to finish second, $7.10 and $4.70. Tyler’s Jewel finished third, $5.20.

The $125,000 Rainbow Connection Stakes is next. The five-furlong grass test for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and upward is Sunday, August 17.
