Lil Punky wins 2008 Mike Anderson Memorial Cup

ERIE , August 4 ...Sweet Lil Punky took advantage
of a rapid pace to score a come from behind win in the
Michael Anderson Memorial Cup at Fort Erie Monday afternoon.
With Garry Cruise
in the irons, the six-year-old daughter of Limit Out kept
within striking distance of a 21 4/5 opening quarter and
a 44 3/5 half mile set by Grain of Truth and gunned down
the pace setter in deep stretch to score a half length
win over Nasty Fever, covering the six furlongs in a 1:11
1/5. Grain of Truth held on to finish third.
“We had
a good pace to run at,” said Cruise. “Everything
seemed to set up in our favour. She’s a nice horse
to ride.”
Sweet Lil Punky
paid $15.90, $5.20 and $3.50, Nasty Fever $2.70 and $2.30,
Grain of Truth returned $2.80.
Next up in the
Cup Series will be the Don Valliere Memorial on Sunday,
August 10.
Note;
Rui Pimentel rode
four winners on Monday’s card. The 35 year-old scored
captured the Double with Lotaguska in the first and Jackeroo
in the second. Pimentel won the fourth race aboard Draven’s
Cross and took the tenth with Texas Affair.
